Foster Parent Support

Our Foster Parents and our staff are part of the team that enables CGSHB to provide the best possible services for the children and the adolescents who are in our care. In order to accomplish this task it is the agency’s mandate and responsibility to provide Foster Parents and our staff with an ongoing program and calendar of trainings and workshops throughout the year to provide them with new skills and techniques needed to work with the concerns and challenges that face them each day that they work with our children enhancing their strengths and addressing their needs.

We want our Foster Parents and our staff to have the best training materials available. We often provide the identical topics to both staff and Foster Parents giving them the opportunity to hear the same material from different perspectives. We utilize the expertise of our own agency experts in the field, along with outside outstanding professionals in the field from area Universities and training institutes. We cover topics of general interest from infancy to adolescence, emotional, behavioral and medical concerns as well as very specialized trainings that meet the exceptional needs of our children. We also provide training materials and videos to Foster Parents and staff to assist them in reviewing certain topics. Many of our materials and videos are produced on site by our exceptionally skilled staff. Our Training Department is continuously researching new topics and exploring new resources to add to our repertoire of workshops.

We are fortunate that we have seven sites throughout the New York Metropolitan area where we are able to provide comfortable training space at a variety of times during the day, evening and on the weekends. We are also able to provide those trainings and materials for Foster Parents in English and in Spanish. In addition, we are able to provide individual training for medical and casework concerns in a variety of settings including the foster parent homes. Our Foster Parent and our staff are a part of our team who work together to provide the best possible services for all of the children in our care.
