Family Day Care Services

The shortage of quality child care is a critical problem for working families in the Bronx. CGSHB helps to meet this need for the families of over 550 children through our Family Day Care Program.

Family Day Care, where children are cared for in the homes of other community members, offers a double benefit for low income neighborhoods. Providers earn income through their own home-based day care business, while working families have access to high quality, affordable childcare.

CGSHB’s Family Day Care Program adds a preventive and protective aspect to the services already offered by our agency. We provide services to families who are homeless, parents attending school or in a training program, seeking employment, and employed. In addition, we enroll foster care parents who are employed or have foster children in need of day care services for development in social skills with peers, and to parents who have physical or/and emotional disabilities and are unable to care for their children on a full time basis. Provider Mothers who are registered with the New York City Department of Health can affiliate themselves with our program and receive a variety of services.

CGSHB recruits and trains Provider Mothers, makes placements through referrals from City agencies, and monitors the quality of care on an ongoing basis. The Provider Mother in turn provides supervision, care and nutritious meals for children in their own home.

Services are provided to children from ages two (2) months to twelve (12) years old, five (5) days a week, up to ten (10) hours per day. Our Program offers caseworker services to providers and the families we serve, and children are placed within the community in which they live.
